There are multiple views regarding the principles that should govern the design of an exhibition space, since it has to be characterized by neutrality in order to be the perfect background for every different exhibition. However, this type of buildings usually acts as a landmark, with multiple benefits to the community and the museum itself.
This project is about the creation of an exhibition space, located in the coastal area of Thessaloniki. The location plays an important role in the composition of the form, as the plot is located at the end of the city’s promenade and acts as a finish point, a destination, of a long route.

The space is comprised by two inclined surfaces that form the levels of the building, with a multifaceted surface that acts as a shell. This gives the impresion that the existing ground is folding in order to adapt to the programm.

An intricate pattern on the shell, organize the shape and place of openings that allow the light to penetrate. Lines start from the bottom of each side of the form, and bend in every change of inclination, till they reach the other side. This intersection of the lines, generate the geometry of the pattern, and the place of the openings are decided according to the use of the interior.

As a result, a dynamic and kinetic form is composed giving a changing effect in the interior based on the environment’s altering characteristics. The building is characterized by a flow. A space formed by simple gestures, that is designed to be an exhibit itself.
